Abstract: The advance and the status of sequence stratigraphy in petroleum geology are summed up.During the evolution of sequence stratigraphy,its theory system goes from classical sequence stratigraphy to modern sequence stratigraphy,and its method system undergoes from seismic sequence stratigraphy analysis,outcrop sequence stratigraphy analysis,well -log sequence stratigraphy analysis to computer simulation analysis of sequence stratigraphy.Its birth is praised as a revolution of the earth sciences,drives the earth sciences to run from qualitatively to quantitatively,and prompts revolutionary improvement of correlated geological subjects.Then some current and sequent research hotspots and frontiers are put forward.And it is emphasized that the research on high -resolution sequence stratigraphy,microcosmic sequence stratigraphy and transverse cross of sequence stratigraphy, and computer simulation analysis of sequence stratigraphy are and will be the research hotspots and frontiers of sequence stratigraphy currently and afterwards.
